Peter moved to Napier from Scotland in 2004 and brought with him a building and joinery background honed over five years in a quality joiners workshop in Paisley, on the west coast of Scotland. That training covered shopfitting, construction, and finishing work — the kind of precision that matters when you're matching century-old villa joinery.

Now based in Napier, Peter Mackay Builder provides a full range of building services to Napier, Hastings and the wider Hawke's Bay area. We cover renovations, alterations, new builds, and classic villa restorations. Most of our work comes from client referrals — the best measure of consistent, quality work.

Peter is a Trade Qualified Builder, Certified Builder, and Licensed Building Practitioner with more than 30 years experience in residential and light-commercial construction. He manages the entire building process, from initial concept to completion, keeping communication lines open at all times.

What we do

From villa restorations to full new builds

Our specialty is renovation and alteration to older buildings — classic old villas in particular. Peter's joinery background means he can source new material to match existing character in older homes, leaving quality workmanship that respects the original building.

We also handle full architectural builds, extensions, kitchen and bathroom renovations, decks, pergolas, fences, retaining walls, garages, carports, and light-commercial fit-outs. Whatever the scale, the same attention to detail applies.

We work closely with clients to facilitate council consents and can work within your circle of chosen subcontractors, or recommend our own trusted group of qualified tradespeople.
